Abbey Lincoln Project ‘For love of Abbey’

Still happy with the great critical acclaim I got for my ballad album ‘Whispers and Moans’
I burst with new plans:
besides the regular concerts with my quartet,  sextet,
and ‘Masha Bijlsma & Bones’  (feat. Bart van Lier and Adrian Mears)
I proudly present a new bandproject  entitled ‘For love of Abbey’, a tribute in honour of
singer Abbey Lincoln.

To support this Abbey project I released a tribute CD called ‘For love of Abbey’ on jazz label ‘Lion Jazz’.

I came acquainted with Ms. Abbey Lincoln during a jazz festival in Gütersloh (Germany)
in 1995.
Ms. Lincoln, touched by the fact that such a young singer (I was 23 years old at the time)
had ‘covered’ the Lincoln song ‘Tender as a rose’ on my debut album ‘Winds of change’,
surprised me and her audience  by singing ‘Tender as a rose’ as an encore and a tribute to her
young Dutch colleague.

Since that memorable night we stayed in touch, meeting each other
whenever Ms.Lincoln toured Europe.
